Tram Trailer No.21 was built by Christchurch based manufacturers Boon and Co, and is one of six used by the Whanganui Corporation Tramways between 1922-c1950.

The trailer is convertible which made it a versatile piece of equipment:the trailer could be operated opened or closed, the side window and lower aluminium panels slide into the roof space. This type of tram trailer was known as a "toastrack". Each trailer could seat 32 passengers and had one conductor.

When the Whanganui Corporation Tramways closed, the trailer body was sold locally. It was later purchased by Ron Alexander, Graeme Benett and Alan Lang, who in turn presented No.10 to MOTAT for preservation, arriving MOTAT 22nd April 1967.
